The heads were no longer flying and the drive was silent. The matching donor heads were fitted on the bench, a very accurate image was created past where the failure occurred, and then the file tree was recreated from the copy and not from the original failing device.
Prior to touching it directly, we forensically cloned the card and then rebuilt the file system on that clone, with a deep carve running behind it to find anything the fault had left orphaned. All frames were recovered.
The two drives were both imaged through their bad sectors, the array was reassembled virtually by taking the healthiest copy of each area from either image, and the file system was repaired on top. The shared drive was recovered completely.
