The decode: the lock, the time travel, and the ask reshaped honestly

What "hardware forced read-only" actually is: his assumption — faulty SSD — is right, but the manner of the fault is the remarkable part, and the hopeful one. Modern SSD controllers monitor their own health continuously: the wear of the NAND, the state of the spare capacity they quietly substitute for failing cells, the integrity of their internal bookkeeping.
