The decode: the separation, the blade, and the economics answered straight

Why "won't even recognise the charger" is about the board, not the data: the symptom sits at the very front of the machine's anatomy: charger recognition is a negotiation between the power adapter and the laptop's power circuitry — the board-level components that accept, condition and route power.
