The decode: what "not a recognized file system" means — and what those old scans actually checked
The verdict, translated: every volume carries a small identity card — defining structures that announce what filesystem it is and where its index lives. Windows read that card this week and found gibberish, so it declared the volume a stranger: RAW, unrecognised, "not accessible." That is a statement about the card, not the contents. Behind a scrambled identity card, half a drive's worth of photographs and documents were still sitting exactly where they were written.
The suspects, re-ranked: an unclean eject can tear a volume's bookkeeping, so her self-charge wasn't groundless — but a power cut is the senior offender here, capable of stopping a write mid-stroke at precisely the wrong address.
